Tuesday, March 16 from Cliff

Today we traveled to Tagaytay.  Jon Garay and Barnie Hernadez from the Rotary Club of Parañanque Sucat were our hosts.  First, we stopped in a mountain community, Barangay Caytuyang that the Club has chosen to aid as a Rotary project.  This is a poor subsistence farming community where the children often have to walk for 2 hours to get to school each day.  There is a small school which they are supporting that serves children to about 6th or 8th grade.  There are no roads to the school and so we had to go down a path for about 100 meters to get to the school.

After our visit we returned to Tagaytay and had lunch at Jerry’s Grill.  This restaurant overlooked the Taal Lake and the Taal Volcano.  The Taal Volcano is the smallest active volcano in the world.  We didn’t see any signs of activity today.  The team really wanted to down to the town of Taal and take a boat to the volcano, which you follow a path up to the crater.  Unfortunately, that is an all day trip and we didn’t have the time.

As we returned to Manila we stopped at the Provincial Capitol Building of Cavite Province in Trece Martires City.  There we were given a tour and stopped in the Governor’s office, but he was away.  However, we were able to sample some of the Barako Coffee, made from beans grown in Amadeo. This coffee is prized for its quality in Asia.  We were also given some grounds to take home with us.
